These pieces are designed and sculpted in ZBrush. Then I print them in castable wax CW40 using my form3+ printer. They are cast here in Downtown Los Angeles and are put through a very labor-intensive five-step polishing process that ensures a truly beautiful surface finish on each piece.
Once they are finished with casting and polishing I then take them back to finish the oxidation process myself by hand. I use a special oxidation process that gets the recessed areas dark while keeping the silver bright and pearlescent which is a more natural look. I apply this mixture with a fine-tip sable brush one by one with my own hands and finish them off with a rotary tool and polishing cloth. Every piece is slightly different because of this process and this is what makes Vadan pieces truly artisanal. I maintain an intimate connection with each piece and see it through all the way to the end.
I am really enjoying the process of making real-world objects. It's so satisfying to wear things that I have made and to see my friends and clients wearing them as well. I'm in love with this new process and don't see myself slowing down anytime soon.
